We Did It! Michigan to go Smokefree!
The Senate passed a statewide smokefree air law by a vote of 24 to 13. This bill covers all workplaces, bars and restaurants in Michigan, exempting only casino gaming floors, cigar bars and tobacco specialty shops.
The bill was immediately sent over to the House of Representatives for a concurrence vote where it passed by a 75 to 30 margin. This legislation now goes to the Governor's desk for her signature. Once signed into law, Michigan will become smokefree on May 1st, 2010. On behalf of the Campaign for Smokefree Air, please accept my thanks for all the work that you and so many other advocates have done. You made this legislation a reality with your dedication, enthusiasm and passion for smokefree air.
THANK YOU STATE SENATOR GILDA Z. JACOBS and STATE SENATOR JOHN PAPPAGEORGE
